Hey Geoff do you have any more of those stickers? The lifeguard has posted a section of beach in Lajolla as a no boat zone ... I'm wondering if we can give San Diego City some kind of economic incentive not to discriminate.....

Mike has the right idea. it's all about balence. Don't look at the paddle horizontal, imagine it at an angle, as it would be in the water. If it was purely a rectangle, then the part of the blade on the boat side of the shaft would have more surfa...

I believe it has more to do with keeping the paddle ballanced on both sides (top and bottom) of the shaft. If the bottom were larger more force would be placed on that part of the paddle. Your hand's attempt to counteract this and keep the paddle ...

Paddles are shaped to provide efficient strokes. But I have a question about that design. Why does the small part of the paddle belong on the bottom? Looking at it, wouldn't it make more sense to put the larger part of the paddle at the bottom to ...

hey guys, in england we do it all the time in our kayaks. Because there are no ski hills. Just get to a big ass hill, make sure there is 2 - 3 feet of snow and off you go! :D lots and lots of fun! If there is enough snow defianitely try it in a ...

Thanks for the reply and interest Pat. I wouldn't recommend that paddle to anyone unless they like that kind of challenge. It's deffinitely the busiest paddle for me ever.

Nice catch, what is it?

Tried it out last night. It took a few minutes to get used to it - it seemed to have some flutter, but after a while that went away. It is a loud paddle, it makes a slight straining sound that translates through the shaft and is not easy to take t...

The Dagger Green Boat

Dagger released the Green Boat as a class V race boat. The boat is named after the infamous race on the Narrows of the Green River. Although I won't be floating The Narrows of the Green or Cherry Creek in a 12' boat anytime soon I've recently found myself firing off the lower South Fork American in the Green Boat.

I've had the pleasure of laying treats in this boat on Chili Bar at flows of 500 CFS, 1600 CFS, and 3500 CFS. Let me start by saying that long boats are fun. There is a well kept secr… Continue

Ready to upgrade

Hello, I am new to kayaking and this year I bought my first kayak. It is a beginner model. I think I am ready to upgrade. I find my kayak I have now doesnt track as straight as I want it to. I would like to go on longer paddles. Is there a big difference with the "ocean models"? I am pretty stable in my rec. kayak but have never sat in a real boat. Can anyone tell me what to look for? Thanks

Tiki Island Night Lights - 6/19/09

I made another trip to Tiki Island again on the 19th. This time, James and I launched out of Fat Boy's at about 11 pm and paddled to the North side of the island. Note: No pics, as the camera was still dead at this time.

Since it was a Friday night, there were plenty of other kayakers around. We counted 5 preparing to launch when we put in and another 6 already there once we got out on the water. I'd prefer to stick with the weeknights.

We got to the first cove and didn't see any action other… Continue

Green River - Desolation and Grey Canyon Section - Utah - Class III (ish) - 6 days

On the Tuesday after Memorial day, I woke up in my truck in a dirt lot, just outside Reno, NV. The night before I’d finished an epic trip down the MF Feather (Class V, 3 days). It was a fantastic trip, but hard and long, and I woke up feeling a little battered and bruised. I was due in Salt Lake City later that morning, and I knew I needed to get driving…
