Need some feed back on crossover kayaks. I'm looking to buy one.
I’ve been paddling a 12.5 tsunami for years doing rivers and have been doing class I and II with some low III’s . I like running rivers and would like to be able to handle the rapids better. Can’t decide between the Pyranha Fusion and the Liquid Logic remix XP10. Could you let me know what you think about these two kayaks?

On my way to Natahala for a short time to have fun. Hope the temperature isn't above 80. I'm getting tired of these 95 degree days.

Hi I would like to run Mark West Creek this winter. I live about an hour away from the river. KEEP ME IN MIND.

Mark West Creek near Santa Rosa. Drop me a line if interested in runniing this winter. Put in along the road at one of several turn-outs downstream of Mark West Lodge, where they opened a New Deli (2003). If you have breakfast there, they might allow you to park in the safety of their lot. There is a gauge on the Leslie Road bridge; at stages between 1 and 2.5 feet, this is a class IV run. I only run it at the one feet mark.

I bought the DVD Whitewater Kayaking for Women, Girls at Play and found it to be excellent. It's a great tool to view before going paddling and afterwards to post mortem my trip (a.k.a. swims) :-)

Woody,

First, let me say that I love your picture! You should consider using the blog function on this site to keep a blog as you progress.

There is nothing wrong with taking it slow! You'll know better than anyone else when you're ready to move up.

You might be interested in looking for a copy of Adventure Sports Journal coming out soon. It's a free magazine you can pick up at REI and The River Store, but i've got an article coming out (not sure if it's out quite yet.) that talks about specific things you can do to build skills on easier runs such that you are prepared when it comes time to step-up.

OK , gotta get used to that "tab" key causing messages to go out before I finish them. (<: To finish what I started: I agree that a class is the best way to go. (perhaps biased, but really believe it to be true (<: )This is especially true with whitewater kayaking, since it is a very counterintuitive sport, with a combination of boat skills and techniques (far more than are required for a rec or touring boat) and the ability to safely read and understand the river and it's hazards, play spots and fun factors. (<: Typically it takes folks about 4 days of instruction to start to be capable on their own of paddling in class 2 water, with better paddlers. These classes are going on now by the way, and the water is great on the American River, with the weather also excellent of late.
On gear, in our program we actually provide all of the paddling gear including boats and paddles etc. for our classes. This allows folks to get a better understanding of what boat(s) and other gear might work out best for them, and make that judgement before they go buy one. We also offer the used boats, as suggested earlier, and have a few left at this time, but the remaining ones are going quickly this time of year. Fall is often the best time to get a used boat. One other thing, we encourage folks to take the first 2 day class before they take a roll session, as it allows for the best progression and learning curve. We do offer roll instruction in the classes as well as a separate class in our on-site pool. Other programs are similar, though most do not have the pool available full tiem for classes.
Good luck getting into it!! Great fun and great folks once you get started in the river kayaking community! (<:
Cheers!
