you been paddling less then a year? welcome to one of the greatest personal sports ever . your going to meet some great people see things you never would otherwise and it's always a adventure! enjoy yourself and goodluck
I too, do not have that much experience (although my river trips are somewhat making me experienced) as my wife and I have only been yaking a couple years now. I can't comment on the type of kayak, equip., etc. We just got some on sale at Dick's Sporting goods around Christmas time, they were 10 foot recreational type fairly flat bottom and stable. Good all-around boats. we got a really good deal. We got interested when we went kayaking in Key West. Started on local lakes and that got boring so rivers were next. I then was getting into it so much I had to set a goal to make me explore more and get more experience. I have almost completed my quest of doing the entire Elkhart River including the North and South branches. I will do the last part of the South branch tomorrow. log jams and all. It's beautiful out there in the country. Low lands, slight current, flood plains-unbelievable. We have even done a winter paddle. be sure to go to Paddle Michiana and check out all the pics.
Welcome to the Great Lakes group Andrea. As you can see we're spread out all over. Hopefully you have an active group close to you. If not, we have a group called Paddlle Michiana in the N. Indiana/S. Michigan area. They do stuff almost every week alot are close to you. You are welcome to check out the group. Happy paddling!
