It's so enjoyable to read a new kayak is so much fun. I was in the same boat when I purchased mine (no pun intended). I had looked at so many, viewed all types of info, and joined in paddling clinics before the purchase. As my profile states, I'm no…

Gotta ask how you like the Hobie. A friend of my broke her arm and constant paddling may not be an option. Wondering how this works for not only kayaking but also for transport and readying for the water. I've viewed them briefly at the paddle shop…

I gotta ask - did the dog ride it out?

Could you post a video of this? I think it would really be nice to see it performed.

Thanks Mike and Geoff for the info. That does make sense and balance is a good thing to have in a kayak - ha/ha.

Mike has the right idea. it's all about balence. Don't look at the paddle horizontal, imagine it at an angle, as it would be in the water. If it was purely a rectangle, then the part of the blade on the boat side of the shaft would have more surface…

I believe it has more to do with keeping the paddle ballanced on both sides (top and bottom) of the shaft. If the bottom were larger more force would be placed on that part of the paddle. Your hand's attempt to counteract this and keep the paddle st…

Paddles are shaped to provide efficient strokes. But I have a question about that design. Why does the small part of the paddle belong on the bottom? Looking at it, wouldn't it make more sense to put the larger part of the paddle at the bottom to ge…

I went on a weekend trip with a group and one of the girls brought her Schnauzer. Had her kayak all rigged for him and he went how, where he wanted to on her craft. The dog was not hyper at all and we camped out a couple of nights. The dog listened…

Looked up where Ft. Smith is and it looks like you have a couple of easy options - reservoir and river. Being you're in PT and not knowing your abilities, I suggest to start small as posted by Lansing. Go for a smaller kayak that you can try out and…

Hi Faith,
Sorry my comment was a bit terse. Many of my friends also sent me this video. Since we are in Orca country it caught our attention. There is a cool website www.snopes.com that tackles hoaxes and urban myths. Go to the sight and type in orca in the search box. They have a report on this video. Take Care

Thank you for the comment. The paddlepac uses inflatable pontoons (made by Jacks Plastic Welding) with a wood/aluminum deck (48"x32") and aluminum connecting arms. It connects to the user with a belt that has a quick release buckle. The entire unit will disassemble and fit in a storage/carrying bag. I should have the paddlepac for sale on ebay within a few weeks. You may go to paddlepac.com to see my prototype, the retail model will have a larger deck and larger pontoons.
Thank you again for your comment.

I needed a new cockpit cover and when reviewed the products, I decided on Seals brand. When I went to purchase, it does not show the sizes in length/width. I reviewed the Seals page and fitting is precise and goes by the make and model of the craft. Well, having had my kayak for a few years, my model was not listed. In the contact page Seals say they will contact you within 24 hours - and they DID!!! My kudos goes out to their biz and crew for a fine job!!! http://www.sealsskirts.com/index.html
