Awesome Tips on Self Support trips from Phil DeReimer

Phil was one of the guides I went to Ecuador with in January, super cool guy and incredibly knowledgeable. He's written a cool article on self support kayak trips that is well worth a read.

Is there a group like AA for paddlers? Kayak Buyers Anonymous?

Just picked up another surf kayak. That's 2 this month, but one was for my wife.

Anyone know who this is?
"> Would you mind asking your club members if anyone knows the kayaker in the attached photo? I'd like to forward a full-sized version of this shot to him. Feel free to post on your site, if you think it will help.

Wow! That's quite a happening. I'm glad it had a happy ending, minus the kayak's injuries. Better the kayak, than Duane's life.

The one holding on to the raft. I'd been under water for about 30 seconds immediately before the shot. The Rock is Fowlers Rock on the South Fork of the American at 8000cfs. On a normal summer run the rock is about 8 to 10ft out of the water and the flow about 1600cfs.

Pretty good. I'm actually working a lot less in July so that means more kayaking! I want to get ready for the springtime when all the snow melt is happening. Woohoo!

Thank you for your comments and questions. I call it the PaddlePac. You can go to paddlepac.com to see more of the prototype, I plan on having a retail model ready for the summer. One important aspect is the ability to disassemble and fit in a storage bag. The raised arms allow the kayak to turn under the unit unobstructed and the only problem I had was going against a strong current. The unit will be aluminum frame, wood deck and pvc pontoons.
Thank you again. Later, Rob K.
