Profile Information

What kind of Paddling are you into?
Sit-on-top Kayaks, Flatwater (Lakes and mellow rivers), Fishing Kayaks
What boats do you own? (kayaks, canoes, rafts, etc.)
WIlderness Systems Tarpon 140, Tarpon 160
Favorite place to paddle?
Galveston Bay
Most memorable paddle?
Night kayak fishing trip at Tiki Island. It was dark, quiet, a little creepy - one of the lagoons reminded me of the scene in Jaws where the fisherman gets his boat upset in the night. But there were jellyfish everywhere and everytime you took a paddle stroke they'd get stirred up and they'd start emitting purple bioluminescence. It was one of the neatest things I've ever seen. And we caught quite a few speckled trout and redfish that night too.
How long have you been paddling?
1-3 year
Here's the new T-160 at Bay Area Park.

Here's my old T-140 in Jones Lake, West Galveston Bay.

Chocolate Bayou - 2/21/10

Jason, Wade, and I decided we were going to head out this weekend. The only question was, what day? Well, the winds weren't looking great on Saturday and I ended up being loaded with stuff to do for my wife, so even though there was a little bit of rain predicted on Sunday, the winds looked much better and I was free of chores.

As we we've considered various locations over the past few weeks, one place that kept

Christmas Bay - 2/13/10

Jason and I decided to do some exploring this past weekend. It was supposed to be one of the best days weather-wise we've had all year and after a chilly start, it was.

We met at what used to be Ernie's around 8:30. I think the temperature was still in the high 30's when we launched. I know it was cold. My hands and feet were freezing, but at least we had not much wind to contend with.

We headed out and into Churchill bayou. We turned up into a ma

Bayou Vista - 2/5/10

This was a quick last-minute trip for Jason and me. The wind was blowing a bit and I originally wasn't planning to go anywhere, but Jason called and we agreed to meet at Louis' around 2 pm.

We set forth and paddled under the RR bridge, where Jason nailed a rat red using a gulp SM (pumpkinseed). Here's the pic:

PACK Trip - Virginia Point - 1/31/10

We've had a lot of really bad weather around here lately. It's either raining, cold, windy, or all three. This PACK outing was originally scheduled on the 30th, but the weather was so bad, it was moved to the 31st.

Although I didn't believe initially that this trip would be much of a success, I wanted to go anyway since Virginia Point is normally out of range for most kayak fishermen. The launch is private and the paddle to get there from the public launch is a long one that I am hesitant to ma… Continue

West Galveston Bay Evening Trip - 1/21/10

Since Jason and I discovered the winter pattern but haven't really had the chance to fish it, we finally put together a plan which would enable us to fish the pattern and find some fish. The plan was basically to start in the late afternoon and go to an area where we would be able to fish green lights after dark if it didn't pan out too well. This would also answer our question as to whether or not the green lights were good during the winter as well as the summer.

We put in at Waterman's Marin… Continue

Thanks for sharing your photos. Makes me want to load up my kayaks and hit the Laguna Madre. I mostly fish Port Mansfield. South Padre or lower Laguna is pretty much fished out. At least the last 8 times I went there. Went 0 for 8.

I was bummed. I missed seeing your blogs. Thought maybe you were busy. Then one day I clicked on your member page, and saw the blog entries were there. That's when I relaized blogs weren't showing anymore....

I've moved back to LA, and went into a shop I worked at for years, but hadn't been in in 3 years or so. 40% of the shop is fishing kayaks! We might have had a few rod holders when I was there. The manager told me that fishing kayaks and kayakers were what was keeping the store afloat....

That's a good looking fishing boat! What's the biggest fish you've caught with it?
