Profile Information

What kind of Paddling are you into?
Sit-on-top Kayaks, Flatwater (Lakes and mellow rivers), Fishing Kayaks
What boats do you own? (kayaks, canoes, rafts, etc.)
WIlderness Systems Tarpon 140, Tarpon 160
Favorite place to paddle?
Galveston Bay
Most memorable paddle?
Night kayak fishing trip at Tiki Island. It was dark, quiet, a little creepy - one of the lagoons reminded me of the scene in Jaws where the fisherman gets his boat upset in the night. But there were jellyfish everywhere and everytime you took a paddle stroke they'd get stirred up and they'd start emitting purple bioluminescence. It was one of the neatest things I've ever seen. And we caught quite a few speckled trout and redfish that night too.
How long have you been paddling?
1-3 year
Here's the new T-160 at Bay Area Park.

Here's my old T-140 in Jones Lake, West Galveston Bay.

Back in the Saddle Again - Ft. Anahuac Park - 8/31/10

Since the baby was born, I've accomplished a number of things, most of which have been baby related. I've discovered the joys of 3 am feedings, learned the inside of Baby's R Us like the back of my hand, etc. I've squirrel-proofed my pecan tree, even read O'Brian's Aubrey-Maturin series - all 20 volumes, but I have not been fishing or kayaking for the past 7, almost 8 weeks. That all changed this morning. After a few weeks of false starts, I was able to get out this morning and heade

My Best Catch - 7/11/10

So, Jason and I had a few rough days on the water in early July. We went to Dickinson Bayou one morning, thinking that we should have a great trout bite on the reef there, but that wasn't to be. Instead, we ended up with a marathon paddling session into a back marsh drain and finally found a couple of rat reds near the barges where we started. I did manage to pick up a ribbonfish, but he jumped off before I could get him in the boat. I think the total for the day was a couple of rat reds for

Stingaree and Fat Rat Flats - 6/25/10

Jason called the night prior and asked if I was interested in taking a trip over to the Bolivar Pocket to see what we could find there. I was definitely interested, it's an area I've never fished but have always been curious about it. The only reason I haven't been there yet is because it involves a ferry ride over and during the summer, the ferries can be packed, sometimes necessitating a 3-4 hour wait and the pocket is best fished in the summer or spring.

Well, we got on t

San Leon - 6/23/10

Since San Leon is so close to my house and I had to be back by around 9:30, that was the natural place to go this morning. I called Jason the night before and he was agreeable to it also, so we met up there about 5:30 am.

Got the boats ready and launched and paddled out to the spot where the trout bite has been pretty consistent as of late.

We started casting with dark colored plastics, including saltwater assassins and Norton Sand Eel jrs, mostly

West Galveston Bay Night Fishing - 06/19/10

After a pretty good trip to Tiki Island a few nights prior, Jason and I decided we'd try the lights at Pirate's Cove. We've been out there early in the morning before heading to the marsh and the fish have been plentiful but a little shy and spooky.

We decided to take along Robert, with whom I've fished on a few PACK trips. Robert has been interested in taking a night trip, but has never done it.

We agreed to meet up about 10 at the Settegast Road

Thank you so much for your help! I will be going to the Dallas area in the next few weeks, so I will find the store and go check out everything. Online is great but sometimes you actually have to be able to see an item in real life! I will keep reading everything I can get my hands on so I can be prepared. I am literally starting from scratch!

Thanks for sharing your photos. Makes me want to load up my kayaks and hit the Laguna Madre. I mostly fish Port Mansfield. South Padre or lower Laguna is pretty much fished out. At least the last 8 times I went there. Went 0 for 8.

I was bummed. I missed seeing your blogs. Thought maybe you were busy. Then one day I clicked on your member page, and saw the blog entries were there. That's when I relaized blogs weren't showing anymore....

I've moved back to LA, and went into a shop I worked at for years, but hadn't been in in 3 years or so. 40% of the shop is fishing kayaks! We might have had a few rod holders when I was there. The manager told me that fishing kayaks and kayakers were what was keeping the store afloat....
