Hi Roxanne, To help get a better picture of what type of boat you are looking for you need to know or have some idea of the type of paddeling you plan on doing. There are several options to choose from. I don't know how much paddleing you have done…

Are you looking for plastic or composite? How much are you hoping to spend? What is your size and paddling experience? Sea Kayaks are specialized to suit different sizes and needs. Poly boats are great for banging up on rock and dragging them around but they are heavy a bit more flemsy than other materials. If you so buy a poly sea kayak check out brands like PH or Valley or Prion. They use the strongest plastics and they also weld in plastic bolkheads instead of foam and silicone. If your looking for a upgrade from there check out some ABS plastic boats like eddyline, Delta, and some others. They are pretty rugged, stiff like composite light and modestly priced. lastly you can find a good used fiberglass boat for 1500-2000 or so. They are a bit heavy but that are stiff and durable. And if you can find a good carbon Kevlar boat for a good buy then thats good too. The biggest thing is to first decide what kind of paddling you will be doing and what size boat you need and then start your search from there. I hope this helps. Have fun!
