Thanks for the reply and interest Pat. I wouldn't recommend that paddle to anyone unless they like that kind of challenge. It's deffinitely the busiest paddle for me ever.

Elkhart River trip only took 1 hour from C.R. 38 to Shanklin Park. Had to do an E-Z portage around Goshen Dam and the wife got stuck behind a 2 foot diameter tree for a minute when the high river split 3 ways at a low spot and I didn't get it right…

Elkhart river trip

Paddled about four hours in Noble County, IN and it was pouring rain about has of the time. However saw about 7 deer, two of which were crossing the river 100' ahead. Also saw two groups of surreally dark rectangular Angus steers , cows & calves against a sky and green meadow backround. Encountered 6-7 log jams and to my delight, my 16 yr. old granddaughter, with almost no experience, took the lead and "captained" us through all of them. I am a proud Grandpa.

Small paddle

Elkhart River again. Had to portage @ Goshen dam. Water was high but only medium swift. Only lasted an hour wanted more. The more familiar I get the longer paddles I can do. My goal is to start at thr river's origin and paddle the whole thing. I am a beginner who had last year done mostly lakes. This river thing has really been a catylist for me. Gettin' into it. I have made contact with the river preservation org and will participate in big group river clean-up on June 6th.

Hi Tom! Thanks for getting in touch. I haven't done too much with regards to group selection. I am a noobie to kayaking...I've done it in the past, but it's been a while. I do'nt have a boat or anything. I'm trying to pick out a boat and goods to get started, take a class or something to get more atuned to paddling. If you have any suggestions or input, it's very much welcome! :) I would love to join your Michiana group. I currently live in Battle Creek (sort of south Michigan).

Hey ya Tom...

I'll have to pass on the Elkhart trip. I appreciate the invite tho!! I haven't had mine in the water yet and have commited to go with the Fort Wayne Kayak group that I ran across on Yahoo groups. I still need to get my PFD and a couple of other pieces before I'm ready for my first plunge. Give me a call? 7655138122. Later, Mike
